WHAT IS A CONVENTION?
In the Virginia Republican Party, we have several different methods of choosing our nominees for different offices. The method that the 7th District Republican Committee has chosen is a convention. In this process, each of the 10 counties that make up the 7th District will send delegates to one central location in the district where they will vote for who they want to be our Republican nominee against Abigail Spanberger.
WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE on July 18th?
Convention delegates should plan to arrive at the Meadow Event Park between 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM. YOU MUST BE IN LINE BY 11:00 AM TO CHECK-IN AND VOTE.
Recommended Arrival Time: 9:00 AM
HOW WILL VOTING TAKE PLACE?
Delegates will walk inside the Farm Bureau Center at Meadow Event Park, check-in using a valid photo ID, then get in line to vote. All voting will take place on machine-readable paper ballots, which means you will fill in a bubble for your candidate on the ballot then feed it into a machine for the vote to be counted. It is important that convention delegates do not leave the Meadow Event park until after our nominee is chosen.
When should convention delegates leave the Meadow Event Park?
Delegates should plan to remain on the park grounds until a nominee has been selected. A candidate must receive a majority of the vote before officially obtaining the nomination. Reaching a majority of the vote may require multiple rounds of voting. If a delegate is only present for the first round, their vote will not count for the following rounds.
It is important that convention delegates do not leave the area until after our nominee is chosen.
IS IT TOO LATE TO SIGN UP TO BE A DELEGATE?
Unfortunately, each county set a deadline for potential delegates to sign up, and those dates have passed.
