Majority of 7th District Sheriffs Endorse Nick Freitas for Congress

Culpeper, VA – Today, seven of the ten sheriffs within Virginia’s 7th Congressional District are announcing their endorsement of Green Beret combat veteran Nick Freitas’ campaign.

These endorsements follow the previous endorsements of Nick Freitas by the Virginia Police Benevolent Association and the Chesterfield County Fraternal Order of Police.

Less than one week before Election Day, incumbent Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger has not received a single endorsement from a Virginia law enforcement association or from a single leader in the law enforcement community in Central Virginia.

Nick Freitas stated the following in announcing these endorsements:
“I am incredibly honored to have the endorsements and support of these incredible public servants that put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe. As the son of a police detective, I know how difficult of a job these men and women have and we need leaders in Congress that will defend them in DC just like they defend and keep us safe here at home.”

Chesterfield County Sheriff Karl Leonard released the following statement with this endorsement:
“This year, our local law enforcement community has come under attack just like many have across the nation and we need leaders in office that will advocate for the good work we do to keep our communities safe not just when it is politically convenient, but all of the time. There is no doubt in my mind that Nick Freitas will have the backs of our law enforcement officers in Congress, just like he has for years in the House of Delegates.”

Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins released the following statement about his endorsement:
“Many sheriffs, deputies, and other Central Virginia law enforcement members held out hope that Congresswoman Spanberger would be an ally and advocate for the law enforcement community after the pro-law enforcement campaign she ran in 2018. But when she was provided that opportunity to defend the men and women of law enforcement as they came under attack, she chose to remain silent. Nick Freitas knows what it means to have the back of our men and women in blue and I know that Nick will always support our local law enforcement in Congress.”
